Celebrate Valentine's Day in a romantic place on Lake Garda

February is the month of hearts, the most romantic month of the year. We remember Valentine's Day, “patron saint of lovers". And at this time of year it is nice to think of beautiful and exciting places, able to make your heart beat, walk hand in hand with your loved one, giving you kisses and care.

Lake Garda is a perfect “Creep" in terms of emotions. How many lovers has he inspired with his magical places and how many newlyweds each year choose these shores for the day of their yes! Thousands of lovers have promised themselves eternal love in front of the sweet waters of Italy's largest lake. Love stories are born and consolidated here all year round, but in February there is an even more special atmosphere. The passions become more intense and, for those who love poetry, there are corners of Lake Garda where you can breathe at every step a bit of this art capable of transmitting the vibrations of the human soul.

On the lake there are many places that are worth a visit, such as the Vittoriale degli Italiani and the high lake with its views and colors. We have chosen some for you, to give you a taste of how romantic Garda is, in the winter months and with the arrival of spring.

Sunset in Sirmione

For lovers of poetry, the first romantic stage is Sirmione, where the story of Catullus and Lesbia speaks to us of love, an intense and hard-fought feeling, a timeless shock. Lesbia was already married when Catullus became her lover. And the famous “Hate and Love" is the incipit and the title of the carme 85 of the Latin poet Catullus, of Veronese origin. This is perhaps one of the most famous verses of the poet: it is said that he wrote it in the Roman villa located on the Sirmione peninsula, contemplating the beauty of Lake Garda, while he thought of his beloved. That villa is now called “Catullo caves" and is one of the most grandiose examples of stately buildings, Roman period, throughout northern Italy.

The archaeological site can also be visited in winter: on weekdays from 8. 30 to 17 and on holidays from 8. 30 to 14 (closed on Tuesdays). The museum is open until 7. 30 pm during the week.
This beautiful place, surrounded by green olive groves and caressed by the waves of the lake, is an exceptional vantage point, often kissed by the sun, so perfect for admiring the sunset in one of the most fascinating corners of Lake Garda. Nature here is sovereign, intimate accomplice of tender kisses.

Punta San Vigilio, timeless charm

Remaining closer to us, in Garda, Punta San Vigilio is a lush promontory, with a Renaissance villa and a charming port. The perfect scene for a kiss.

Romantic is the “Baia delle Sirene”, a few steps from the villa, where you will enjoy walking hand in hand, listening to the sound of the waves. Punta San Vigilio is certainly more beautiful in the season from March to October, but in this period you can enjoy the relaxing calm of the lake in winter. If you love peace, you'll be instantly won over by this place. Not bad for those looking for romantic places.

Punta San Vigilio is one of those places of timeless charm, preferred by tourists today, but also by the greats of the past: do not forget that the villa was home to people who have made history as Napoleon and Winston Churchill.

The Valentine's Day Hermitage and the “Lovers' Path"

If you love nature and lonely places, here is another destination to mark in your diary, with a little heart next to it: the Valentine's Day Hermitage and the “Lovers' Path".

We move away from the lake a little bit and go uphill (the hermitage is at 772 m). We are on the Brescia side of Lake Garda, in the hinterland of the municipality of Gargnano, a very nice and characteristic village for lemons. You must absolutely visit the marina and the lakeside promenade. It's as if time has stood still in this pretty spot.

It is dedicated to the protector of lovers the simple yet very satisfying route, surrounded by nature and with many panoramic viewpoints. A tour to do on foot, as a couple, to enjoy the scenery together and share the emotions that this place will arouse.

The walk to the Valentine's Day hermitage is short, suitable for everyone. We start from Sasso, a hamlet of Gargnano, where we take path no. 31 at the beginning of the village. Hiking shoes and go. The path crosses some green fields, a forest with centuries-old trees and gradually increases in slope. Along the route you can admire the lake, Monte Baldo and the village below. When you get to the hermitage you will find a small church of 1600, all leaning against the wall in which it is set, and raising your eyes you will have a view . . . heartbreaking.

Rocca in Manerba and the Garda Island

Remaining still on the Brescia side of the lake, there are two other perfect places for lovers who love special landscapes.  Rocca in Manerba, one of the most spectacular viewpoints on the lake, immersed in a natural park, and the Garda Island, opposite the village of “San Felice del Benaco”.
The village on the island, built between 1890 and 1903, is in Venetian neo-Gothic style. It is still inhabited today and surrounded by wonderful Italian and English gardens, with intact vegetation, very well cared for. The tour, including the villa, takes about two hours.

It can be reached by water, with private boats sailing from the ports of the tourist resorts of Bardolino, Sirmione and Manerba, through a private service of motorboats and small boats whose drivers have direct agreements with the property of the village (the Cavazza counts), for guided tours.

The island of Garda is one of those “places of the heart", destined to remain impressed forever. For one day, it will make you feel like inside a fairy tale, princes and princesses of Garda. Getting here is like going back in time. Stopping to wait for the sunset will be the most beautiful gift for you!

For those who love details: the island is about one kilometer long and 600 meters wide; it is just over 200 meters from Capo San Fermo, which divides the Gulf of Salò from the Emerald Bay. Other beautiful places in our lake.
